Corn Dolly Folklore

About

LucyHi, I'm Lucy, I have a BA (Hons) in 3D Design Crafts and am a member of Straw Craftsmen and Heritage Crafts. I have been researching and working with straw since 2023 after discovering that Corn Dolly Making and Straw Work are on the Heritage Crafts Red List of Endangered Crafts.

I grew up in rural north Essex and have a long family history along the Essex-Suffolk border where there is also a history of corn dolly making and straw plaiting for hat making (two of my 3rd great grandaunts were straw plaiters in Belchamp Walter in the mid 1800s).

Having fond memories of corn dolly making as a child, I intend to share and teach these skills around East Anglia and have started hosting 'Straw Club' at the East Anglian Folklore Centre and am running regular workshops, which are available to book here. You will also find me at local Craft Shows, Plough Days, and Steam Threshing Days, Please see the Events page for more information. You can also find me on Instagram and Facebook.

All my pieces are made to order so please allow 5 working days plus delivery time. If you have seen any pieces you like that are not listed in my shop or have any other commissions for me, please do get in touch and I'll do my best to help you.
